Hi All,

I just wish to let you know about the new DC team for the Barnsley District in case you were not aware. Tina Langley is the new District Commissioner, with myself being the Deputy District Commissioner (Programme).

So let me just formally introduce myself for those who do not know me. My name is Paul Davis, I have been in scouting for nearly 20 years prominently as a Scout and an Explorer Scout Leader, I have also been the DESC for the past 12 months before my appointment to DDC. I have lots of drive, enthusiasm and a real lets get stuck in attitude and give Scouters a fun time for both Adults and Children as I believe that you give up lots of time, which is very valuable in this day and age, so you should also get something back out of Scouting.

It is my responsibility to drive the new scouting programme for Barnsley and to give both Adults and Children from all sections involved in this district some fun and variation in their Scouting life, obviously to do this I cannot do this alone and really need your help with this, so here are some of the ways in which you can get involved and help the new team of Tina and myself.

Firstly we are looking for 3x ADC’s (Assistant District Commissioners) ADC Beavers, ADC Cubs, ADC Scouts. We are also looking for a DESC (District Explorer Scout Commissioner). Attached are blank nomination forms as well as Job Descriptions for the above roles should you wish to self nominate. Or nominate someone who you believe would be a benefit to the District in one of the above roles.

We are also looking for members of a programming committee, these members are to help the district team to devise and orchestrate new program idea’s and activities. This would be an ideal role for you if you feel that you would not like to take on a District Appointment (ADC or DESC) but would love to contribute to the District programme to help give the scouters fun programs and activities across all ages. The district team will automatically be a member of the programme committee.

Please drop me an email if you would like to be considered for the Programming Committee.

For the above positions the main attribute needed is drive, enthusiasm and a real can do attitude so please give it some thought and come and join us in trying to make the Barnsley District the best it can be and give all the Scouters of all ages in the district a great time during their scouting life.

Now one of the things that came out at the All Scouters meeting that was held at the Town Hall in Barnsley on Monday night was the need for communication for all, as this has been very lacking recently. So both Tina and myself are committed to listen to your views and act upon them where possible. So we have decided that we shall email all of you when we send out emails so you all get the information.

Finally please remember this is your district and we are all in this together and we are here to support and help you so please do not hesitate to contact either of us. My contact details are at the bottom of this email and Tina’s are:

Tina Langley (DC)

Email: BarnsleyDC@gmail.com

Telephone: 07986109939

I am happy to receive emails, phone calls or I am happy to comer and talk to you on a one to one basis should you wish to discuss anything or have idea’s what ever it is just get in touch with myself. I am sure Tina would be the same.

Thanks for your time.

Yours in Scouting,

Paul Davis

Barugh scouts provide activities and training for 10 – 14 yr olds, meeting at Barugh Scout Hut, Dearne Hall Road, Low Barugh, thursday evenings, 7 to 9 pm. More details of scouting at Barugh can be obtained via Barnsley 388271 or CW014I7038@blueyonder.co.uk

South Yorkshire Youth Involvement Milkshake Bar visits

Greater Youth Involvement is a major part of the Scout Associations vision of Scouting in 2018. In South Yorkshire we have been quick to grasp this message and help our young people help shape the future. Part of this project is to find innovative and fun ways for all members of scouting to share views and make their voices heard. The Milkshake Bar is one way we hope to achieve this…..

Guest Blogger – DOMINIC MOORE

We were invited to the Penistone and Silkstone Scout Group’s “MUD CAMP” last weekend to run our Youth Involvement Milkshake bar, albeit a scaled down version.

Despite a lot of apprehension, stress and trepidation, all my own; I’m glad to say the milkshake bar went down a treat! All the young people (and adults) loved our shakes, and we got some excellent feedback on our chosen topics from the Beaver, Cub & Scout sections and also some cracking pictures. I’m really happy with how well it went, and it really demonstrated how it could be a success at other events.

Milkshake flavours included Jaffa Cake, Oreo, ice cream and jammie dodger!

I’d like to say huge thanks to the Penistone & Silkstone young leaders who were on camp; it couldn’t have run without them! The Leader team for inviting us and putting up with our loud blenders and sales pitches and lastly Susie Roach and Andy Marsden for their support.

I think this shows the milkshake bar as a whole is sustainable, and would be very successful in the future at both raising funds, and the profile of the youth involvement project.

If you would like to book the Youth Involvement Milkshake Bar for your next event please contact us via the County Office?
