Silverwood

Silverwood Scout Campsite is found nestling in the foothills of the Pennines, betwixt the picturesque* villages of Silkstone and Dodworth, Silverwood Scout Campsite is situated only 3 km (1.5 mile) west of Junction 37 of the M1. Close to amenities, yet in a remote location, the site consists of 10 acres of camping area, a purpose built 42 person accommodation block and with a modern toilet & shower block adjoining 100 acres of woodland, with good views of the Pennines and the surrounding countryside.

The site lends itself to providing ideal camps where all types of training and activities can be put into good practice.

It is ideal as a base camp to explore the surrounding area.

Silverwood was a army training camp during the first world war. It was gifted to a local Scout Council for the use of scouts in the Barnsley area.

The site is managed by a committee of elected trustees for the benefit of the District. Maintenance is provided by the district on a rota system with volunteer crews, who are often present on site and can help you with any difficulties during your stay.
